Nottinghamshire were named Women's County Champions for the second time in their history after they pipped Surrey in a dramatic finale at Stover Golf Club, Devon.
The 2015 winners, who faced Lancashire off the first tee, held a 0.5 game point advantage over the south region winners, meaning they just had to mirror their score against Buckinghamshire to lift the trophy.
The pair headed into the Sunday shootout unbeaten - having drawn 2.5 - 2.5 on Saturday morning - and that remained the case at the close of play.
Surrey completed their 3 - 2 win over Bucks and had to wait anxiously as Notts completed their matches.
And with the rain starting to fall (again), their opening foursome of Laura Morris and Jorja Newbold dramatically clinched the third match on the 18th green to kickstart celebrations across the course with two games still in play.
Those clashes would eventually split 1 - 1 finishing Notts 1.5 game points ahead of Surrey.
The drama and atmosphere were electric, but fans were made to wait.
Having evaded the expected showers over the first two days, the south coast became drenched forcing a delay and eventual 12pm restart.
Drama ensued as both teams, having to go toe-to-toe in their match, were in parts on the opposite side of the course.
Surrey's Matilde Santili secured their first point with a 6&5 win, but the second foursome pair of Eloise Feely and Emily Gilmour swiftly responded for Bucks on the 16th green (3&2).
Surrey's opening duo, meanwhile, were locked in a titanic tussle. One down on 15, Emily Peaford and Katie Laud birdied 16 and 17, before clinching with par on the 18 to secure their second point.
There were tears and hugs on the ninth green - their 18th - with Notts still yet to post a result.
That changed around 10 minutes later as Elizabeth Wilson - who won all five appearances on top of the regionals - secured a 3&2 win, with fellow unbeatables Lauren Spray and Millie Marsh closing out 4&3.
That gave the sides two wins apiece and it was finely in the balance with a pair of matches heading down their final hole all-square.
Surrey's game Annabel Peaford was slightly ahead however and she was stunned as Demi Maxey struck a brilliant shot within two feet for birdie.
Peaford's birdie putt was 10 feet above the hole, and after gliding the edge, she could only watch on as Maxey holed out to secure a win.
With the score 2 - 2, that opened the door for Morris and Newbold, to clinch victory.
Having watched Lancashire's Caitlin Feeney hole a 60ft putt on the 17th - which led to an eventual half - they knew what was at stake.
Morris found the semi-rough, forcing Newbold to draw a shot around the tree to pin-high left. Lauren Green and Feeney, meanwhile, found the fringe at the front.
Putts for either side gave Newbold the chance to secure victory, which she duly did in front of her County Captain Julie Revill.
"The team are overwhelmed and overjoyed and they feel ecstatic," said Revill. "I'm still surprised and it hasn't sunk in yet, but by the time I get home to Nottingham - our little old county - it'll sink in."
In the other game, Norfolk finished third in the table with a 3.5 - 1.5 win over Dorset.
Harriet Allsebrook and Tiff Mills - both went five from five - with 2&1 and 4&2 wins respectively, while Joanne Herd and Amelie Marling completed the win 2-up.
For Dorset, Melissa McMahon made three birdies in her first six holes to comprehensively win 8&6 in the top match and the unbeaten pair of Jane Southcombe and Harriet Teversham secured a half against Sharon Allen and Sue Henderson.
