England Men were crowned runaway winners of the European Nations Cup at Sotogrande on Saturday, after winning the tournament by an enormous 14 shots.

England finished on a staggering -31, 14 shots clear of France in 2nd on -17.
Tiverton’s Eliot Baker (pictured below) lifted the individual men’s title after finishing on -15 across the four rounds, which included 21 birdies – five of which came consecutively in the final five holes of the event to seal a sublime week.
Baker’s score of -15 is the individual record for the tournament – and is also an England team record at the competition.

Baker’s efforts were pivotal in helping his England team win the title, and with the top three scores from four players counting, he was brilliantly supported by Ben Bolton (Enville), Kris Kim (Wentworth) and Tom Osborne (Lindrick).Bolton also finished in 3rd place in the individual standings with a total score of -11.
England Men’s Captain Ben Gorvett added: “It was a fantastic team performance with all players contributing. It shows that the players picked were the right ones and they’ve helped us lift the trophy yet again.”
Meanwhile, England Women enjoyed a stellar week, as the team of Charlotte Naughton (Longhirst Hall), Annabel Peaford (Walton Heath) and Ellie Lichtenhein (The Buckinghamshire) finished in tied-2nd place on -1.
A strong final day performance saw England jointly leading after 12 holes, with Charlotte Naughton holing out her second shot for eagle on the 11th and following it up with birdie on the par-5 12th. Sweden however enjoyed a strong finish, powering to victory with a team total of -6 – and although England were five back, it equalled their best ever score at the event.
Naughton finished 3rd in the individual standings with her overall score of -2, with England Women’s Captain Jenny Henderson stating: “Scores can change quickly in a team stroke play event though, and unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be for the young team this year. However, it’s a great 2nd-place finish overall, and a 3rd-place finish for Charlotte, who was just one of three females to finish under par for the tournament.”
