Lincolnshire's Alison Johns has achieved an extraordinary milestone, winning the Gold Medal in the Golf Tournament at the British Transplant Games, held at the superb Hillsborough Golf Club.
Competing on a course known for its challenging layout, steep climbs and firm summer ground conditions, Alison’s victory is a triumph of skill, resilience and spirit. But for her, this medal represents far more than sporting success.
17 years ago, Alison’s life changed dramatically when an unknown virus attacked her liver. With just five days left to live, she received the life-saving gift of a transplant — a moment she describes as her second chance.
“I will be forever grateful to my donor and their family for making that gift possible. Every round of golf I play, every competition I take part in, and every achievement I have, is something I never take for granted.”
Alison won the gold at the World Transplant Games in Germany in 2025, and her recent gold medal is a tribute to her donor, her family and the many friends who have supported her throughout her journey.
Their encouragement, she says, has been central to her recovery, her return to golf and her determination to keep making memories on the course.
“This gold medal is for my donor, my family and everyone who has supported me on this incredible journey.”
