7 England players in Walker Cup squad
Seven England players have been selected to represent Great Britain & Ireland against the United States of America in the 51st Walker Cup at Lahinch.
The match will take place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September against the backdrop of the picturesque north-west coast of County Clare, Ireland, with GB&I aiming to win the famous trophy for the first time since its 16½-9½ victory at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2015.
Eliot Baker, Luke Poulter and Tyler Weaver will be featuring for their second successive Walker Cup match, while Ben Bolton, Sam Easterbrook, Josh Hill and Jack Whaley will make their Walker Cup debuts.
Whaley became only the third Englishman to win the US Amateur after defeating Jay Leng Jr 4&3 at Merion last Sunday, while Baker, Poulter and Weaver are among the other members of the team to have recorded notable individual victories over the last two seasons.
Dean Robertson will captain GB&I for a third time, having previously led the team against the USA at Cypress Point and guided them to victory over the Continent of Europe in The St Andrews Trophy in Madrid. The Scot also represented GB&I as a player in the 1993 Walker Cup at Interlachen.
The top five eligible players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking®, along with The Amateur Champion and US Amateur Champion were automatically selected with the balance being picked by the Captain to complete the team of 10.

England Golf youngsters Lauren Crump and Annabel Peaford are named in the 12-player European Junior Solheim Cup team to take on the USA at Bernardus Golf in The Netherlands from September 7-8.
It will be the first time the event has been played on the same course as the Solheim Cup.

The players will stay on to watch the Solheim Cup, which starts on Friday September 11. This will be the 14th playing of the Junior Solheim Cup, and Europe will be looking for a third win from four editions, having won in 2021 and 2023 before losing on US soil in 2024.

Six England golfers have been selected to play for Great Britain & Ireland in the Jacques Léglise Trophy and the Junior Vagliano Trophy in Ireland this week. Both junior international matches take place at The Island north of Dublin on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August.
The Jacques Léglise Trophy is a team encounter for boys aged 18 or under involving GB&I against the Continent of Europe. Most recently, the Continent of Europe defeated GB&I in 2025 with a 15-10 victory at the Royal Golf Club of Belgium and GB&I are this week aiming to win the trophy for the first time since triumphing in Finland in 2018.
The Junior Vagliano Trophy, an amateur team match for girls aged 16 or under, is also contested between Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. GB&I triumphed in 2024 at West Lancashire before the Continent of Europe regained the trophy last year at Koninklijke Haagsche Golf & Country Club in the Netherlands.
