England Squad star Lauren Crump has made it back-to-back English victories at the World Junior Girls Golf Championship, presented by BFL CANADA, at Brampton Golf Club in Canada.
The Shropshire golfer closed strongly with a final-round 70 (-1) to finish the tournament on 11-under-par, holding off Korea's Seoah Kim to join England Golf Women's Squad star Charlotte Naughton in claiming the gold medal after Naughton's success last year.
“I’ve come to this event the last two years and to finally be up there and win the medal is an amazing achievement for myself.
“Charlotte is one of my best friends and I’ve played a lot of junior golf with her. To follow in her footsteps and see both of our pictures up there is incredible.”
After opening with rounds of 68 and 70 on the par-71 layout, the Hill Valley player catapulted up the leaderboard on day three with a superb 65 (-6), the second-lowest score of the week, to take a one-shot lead into the final round.
Holding the lead with nine holes to play, Crump credited a lengthy par putt on the par-3 11th as a key moment in her closing stretch. She added a birdie on the 14th before finishing with four consecutive pars and was then forced to wait as Kim still had two holes remaining.
The 14-year-old Korean came up just short on the closing holes with birdie chances on both. Her putt on the 17th lipped out before a birdie attempt on the 18th narrowly missed on the left side, leaving her one shot behind Crump.
Crump added: “The pins were incredibly tough today, so I had the mindset of going for the ones that I needed to and staying conservative on any that were really difficult. That was the plan.
“I holed some really nice putts in the middle of my round, which helped keep my momentum going.”
With the victory, Crump has earned an exemption into the 2027 CPKC Women’s Open, which will be played at The Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec, from 18-22 August.
It will mark her second start on the LPGA Tour after competing in the AIG Women’s Open earlier this season.
“It’s great experience, especially to play an LPGA event outside of the UK and abroad, so I’m really looking forward to it and am so excited,” she added.
