Oliver Harrison won the second edition of the Race To Woodhall Spa Overseas Grand Final, sponsored by Your Golf Travel, becoming champion at Penina Hotel & Golf Resort, Portugal.

The 16-year-old, playing off a handicap of 13, shot a stellar 71 points across his two rounds of golf on the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course on Tuesday and Wednesday to lift the title as he finished six shots clear of the field.
He said: “It means a lot. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here and I’m really proud of this achievement and what I’ve managed to do over the past two days.”
Harrison, a member at Rowlands Castle, enjoyed an excellent start to his competition during the first round, racking up 40 points thanks to five pars on the spin from holes 14 to 18. That stretch would turn out to play a huge part in sealing victory, as Harrison was able to build up a commanding seven-point lead heading into Wednesday’s final round.
He added: “The highlight was definitely my first round. It helped bump up my second round because I had a bit of a shaky middle but overall, I thought I played really well. It was important that I held the lead heading into the final round because I knew if I had a few bad holes, I could come back from it. My game plan was to go for precision over power and try to place the ball instead of smashing it and that’s what worked out well for me.”
Cameron Anderson (Reigate Hill) and Steven Farrow (Thornbury) went in as the nearest challengers and looked to apply the pressure after they opened with 33 points and 32 points respectively. However, as their challenge faded away, Davenport’s Harry Derham, the Junior Race To Woodhall Spa winner in August, made his move, shooting 36 points to put himself into contention.
Playing off a handicap of 22, the 15-year-old had five pars and a birdie to finish on a total of 65 points. It wouldn’t be enough to dislodge Harrison at the top of the standings though, as his strong second round of 31 was good enough to see him amass 71 points and take home the trophy.
Letchworth’s Deborah Connor rounded out the top three with 60 points, firing 29 points and 31 points across two rounds. Click here to view the final leaderboard.
