Cheshire Golf Ltd has been shortlisted for County of the Year at the 2026 England Golf Awards, recognising an outstanding first year as a unified county and a period of significant progress, collaboration and success.
Since unification, Cheshire Golf Ltd has engaged directly with all 95 affiliated clubs, with each director responsible for a cluster of clubs to ensure strong, meaningful relationships.
Three county‑wide roadshows—shaped by feedback from club visits—brought together managers, PGA Professionals and delegates to discuss key topics including WHS™, Course Rating™, development and competitions.
When severe weather impacted several clubs, Cheshire Golf Ltd coordinated courtesy tee times and provided financial support to those facing equipment loss, demonstrating its commitment to listening and responding to club needs.
Communication and visibility have strengthened considerably, with social media engagement rising by 300% year on year and over 1,000 Instagram followers. This improved reach has helped members follow county achievements and access coaching opportunities quickly and easily.
Aligned coaching programmes have delivered major impact, particularly for junior girls, where participation has doubled, and 50% of Cheshire’s girls now benefit from county‑provided coaching.
Inclusivity remains central to the county’s values, with expanded women’s and girls’ opportunities, weekend championship scheduling, and a growing Life Membership category now open to both men and women.
Cheshire’s competitive success has been exceptional. Highlights include winning the English Boys’ County Championship, national titles for Sarah Naden and Lucy Jamieson, a ninth consecutive Richardson Trophy for the Women’s Seniors, and regional victories for the Senior Men.
Safeguarding standards are exemplary, supported by a serving police officer as County Safeguarding Officer and representation on England Golf’s safeguarding board. Additional initiatives include WHS seminars, a handicap secretary WhatsApp group, winter Course Rating™ support, and new partnerships with the Stroke Association and Neuro Muscular Centre.
Cheshire Golf Ltd’s first year has been defined by unity, inclusivity and achievement—qualities that make the shortlisting a fitting recognition of a county making a real difference.
