England Golf has today confirmed the players who will form the boys’ and girls’ squads for season 2022-23.
Five players have been rewarded for their excellent form and their potential to develop by winning call-ups to the boys’ squad.
A talented and strong girls’ squad features seven players – six of whom retain their places from last season.
The 12 players selected are drawn from 12 different counties reflecting the strength of junior golf across England.
Boys’ Squad
Hugh Adams - Hagley GC, Worcestershire
Sam Easterbrook - Olton GC, Warwickshire
Frazer Jones - Kirby Muxloe GC, Leicestershire
Jack Lee - Rochester & Cobham Park GC, Kent
Tyler Weaver - Bury St Edmunds GC, Suffolk.
Girls’ Squad
Sophia Fullbrook – The Melbourne Club, Hertfordshire
Rosie Bee Kim – The Buckinghamshire, Buckinghamshire
Isla McDonald O’Brien – Shrewsbury GC, Shropshire
Ellise Rymer – Lincoln GC, Lincolnshire
Amelia Wan – Sherwood Forest GC, Nottinghamshire
Maggie Whitehead – Close House GC, Durham
Ellen Yates – West Hill GC, Surrey
Jones and Lee step up to the boys’ squad for the first time. Jones, however, was a part of the winning England team at the Home Internationals in August.
Fullbrook – another who stepped up to help England win the Home Internationals – is the new name in the girls’ set-up.
All 12 players will have the chance to work with the England Golf coaching and performance staff at regular sessions to be held over the coming months at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa.
These sessions will allow the players to develop all aspects of their game from a technical, physical and mental perspective.
Stephen Burnett, head of men’s performance at England Golf, said: “The five lads selected all deserve their place in the squad after successful seasons and, with further support and guidance, will have a great opportunity to learn from some of the country’s best coaches and take their games to the next level.
“The past season produced a number of highlights – notably England’s boys winning a silver medal at the European Team Championships in Germany and qualifying for the 2023 World Team Championships in Japan as a result of their efforts.
“Earning a place in the team for the Worlds is a huge incentive and something to aim for in the coming months.
“With the calibre of players we have coming through at regional and national level and the depth of our talent pool, I’m confident the future is bright for boys’ and men’s amateur golf in this country.”
Rebecca Hembrough, head of performance for women at England Golf, said: “The seven girls selected for this coming season all proved they have the talent and desire to succeed.
“Everyone involved in the performance set-up looks forward to helping them achieve their individual and team goals for 2023.
“Six of the seven girls played a major role in retaining the Boys’/Girls’ Home Internationals in 2022 while Maggie Whitehead stepped up to help the combined men’s and women’s squad win their Home International event.
“The nucleus of the team which finished fourth in the European Team Championships earlier this summer is also still in place and international experiences like this are invaluable for the girls’ development.
“At England Golf, we strive to ensure the players are well schooled in the five pillars of performance: world-class holing out, outstanding short game, precise wedge play, ball-flight control and strategy/tactical awareness.
“The top-class facilities at our disposal at the National Golf Centre will help the players push towards these targets.”
