Woburn Golf Club played host to a remarkable English Under 25 Amateur Stroke Play Championship, with Mark Stockdale and Abbie Teasdale being crowned men’s and women’s winners respectively.

It was a case of home-course advantage for Stockdale, who battled back from a torrid start to win the event by three shots following a stunning five-under on the back-nine.
English Women’s Amateur champion Teasdale now has the English Women’s Under 25 Open Amateur trophy to add to her collection after she fended off stiff competition to win by three strokes – and was the only female in the field to shoot level par.
Stockdale was the men’s joint-leader alongside Oliver Cage (Moortown) after day two but the pair didn’t have the front-nine they had hoped for as the lead changed hands multiple times throughout a frantic final day.
Craig Passmore (Torquay), who went into the day just three shots back following a stunning eight birdies on day two, had a whirlwind start with three more birdies after five holes as he shot to the top of the leaderboard. However, his charge fell away from the eighth hole onwards.
Hamish Hall (Studley Wood) produced a stunning final round of three-under to leapfrog up the leaderboard while Max Berrisford (Ilkley), who didn't have the best start with two bogeys, bounced back brilliantly with five birdies to take the clubhouse lead at -5.
Joe Buenfeld (Bramshaw) finished fourth after a +1 final round while Hall edged him into third place on countback, but it was Stockdale’s day as he replicated day two’s back-nine form by making no mistakes to secure victory on home turf.
At the start of the day Woburn was staring at a fairytale story with both club members Stockdale and Megan Dennis leading their fields, but Dennis dropped shots early on to fall behind the pack.
Australian Teasdale (member of Royal Fremantle and Manchester) plugged away to show her incredible consistency as she shot 73 for the third day running, steering clear of clubhouse leader Lucy Jamieson (Heswall) who fired a superb one-under round to finish second.
Jessica Hall (Bishop Auckland) finished one behind Jamieson in third, while Alexandra Stevenson (Beamish Park), Luca Thompson (Pavenham Park) and Jessica Brown (Cirencester) all finished a further three shots back on +7.
