England Golf has named its teams for October’s World Amateur Team Championships at Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s National Course in the United Arab Emirates.
Jack Bigham and Barclay Brown, who both impressed at the Walker Cup for Great Britain & Ireland, are in the men’s team, as is Tyler Weaver, who was a reserve for the Walker Cup following his tremendous 2023 which has seen him win the Carris Trophy, finish runner-up at the English Amateur Championship and represent England at the Home Internationals.
Bigham has enjoyed several top-10s this year including tied-4th place at the European Amateur Championship in Finland as well as an impressive tied-12th at the St Andrews Links Trophy. Brown meanwhile finished 4th in the USA’s NCAA D1 Championship and played in this year’s US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.
The male trio will compete for the Eisenhower Trophy from October 18-21.
Charlotte Heath, who finished as the top amateur at last month’s AIG Women’s Open, is named in the three-woman team challenging for the Espirito Santo Trophy alongside Lottie Woad and Caley McGinty, with all three having helped England Women pick up a silver medal at the European Team Championship in Finland in July.
McGinty won the South American Amateur Open in Ecuador in January followed by the Westbrook Invitational in the USA in February. She has impressed in a host of competitions throughout the year, including a top-20 finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship.
Woad helped Europe win the Patsy Hankins Trophy in Spain earlier this summer and was also part of the England team which won the Home Internationals in August. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a number of top-10 finishes in the past 18 months, including 2nd place at the South American Amateur Open and winning the Florida State Match Up. Woad also won her third US College title last week in the ANNIKA Invitational.
The women will tackle the National Course at Abu Dhabi from October 25-28.
The biennial tournaments last took place in 2022 in France, with Italy winning the Eisenhower Trophy and Sweden winning the Espirito Santo Trophy. England have won the Eisenhower Trophy four times as Great Britain & Ireland, with the last triumph coming back in 1998, while England have never won the Espirito Santo Trophy, with runners-up finishes as Great Britain & Ireland in 1974 and 1992.
