Coventry Hearsall’s Arianna Virik shot a total of two-under-par to win the Underrated Golf Tour at Fairmont St Andrews’ Kittocks Course on Saturday.

After a first round of 72 (-2) on Friday, things didn’t go according to plan early on day two, as she dropped four shots on the front nine. However, the 15-year-old battled back valiantly with a four-under back nine which included an eagle, to win the event by two shots ahead of her nearest competitors.
She said: “I played badly (in the final round) to start with as I was three-over through four but I got to the back nine knowing there were lots of holes that I could birdie or eagle. I managed to eagle 15 and birdie 17 so I was just trying to keep it going and I was chilled out because whatever the outcome was, it was.
“The girls I played with were so good, everyone was fighting to win and this has given me a real confidence boost to know that I can do it, even if I am down.
“I’d like to thank Underrated and Fairmont for holding this event because out of all the junior tours this is definitely one of the best. I’d also like to thank my mum, dad, nan, sister for all supporting me and bringing me here and my coach Alan for helping me throughout the whole year.”
The victory means Virik will head to the USA from 10-12 September to play in The Curry Cup at Liberty National Golf Club, competed by the top 28 girls and boys from the tour.
She added: “I’m so excited to go to New York and I’m excited to see how my game stacks up and to experience an LPGA Tour course.”
