The Club at Mill Green has been named Club of the Year, sponsored by Insured Health, at the 2026 England Golf Awards - celebrating its evolution into one of the country’s most forward-thinking and community-centred golf venues.

The award recognises a remarkable period of transformation since the club was acquired by GetGolfing in 2019, during which Mill Green has redefined what a modern golf club can contribute both to its members and to the wider community.
Driven by a commitment to accessibility and social impact, Mill Green has removed traditional barriers to participation through graduated membership options, the removal of joining and bar levy fees, a relaxed dress code, and free memberships for all under-18s. This inclusive approach has helped create a welcoming environment for players of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
The club’s community work has been equally influential. Profits are reinvested into initiatives that support local people, from providing free school meals during holidays to offering complimentary access for charities, schools, and community groups. Partnerships with organisations such as Isabel Hospice and local education providers have strengthened Mill Green’s role as a safe, supportive hub for wellbeing and social connection.
Significant investment in the course and clubhouse, alongside a vibrant competitions and events calendar, has enhanced the member experience. Innovative formats—including 9-hole midweek leagues and a monthly Par 3 social—have encouraged new golfers and fostered a lively playing culture. The introduction of an Advisory Board and the launch of a new junior section and academy in 2025 further underline the club’s long-term vision.
General Manager at The Club at Mill Green, Gary Walsh, said: "It's incredible, really. We came here with low expectations. We weren't really expecting to win, but it's incredible to be acknowledged for all of the hard work and for the people that have put so much effort in over the years to get us to where we are today.
“We want to encourage more women to play the game of golf and also continue to grow our Fun, Food & Golf. We've fed over 2,000 kids over the last five years, so we would be hoping to increase that number in 2026.
“We'll be taking the trophy back to the club and we'll celebrate with our members this weekend!”
Winning Club of the Year is a testament to the dedication of Mill Green’s staff, volunteers, and members, and to a shared belief in golf as a force for community good.
